"An Unexpected Visitor" is the second short story included in A Christmas to Remember from the Dear Canada series. It was written by Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch as a follow-up to her 2007 book, Prisoners in the Promised Land. The story was also translated in French as "Un visiteur inattendu."
Preface[]
- "Anya's family was forced to spend part of World War I at Spirit Lake Interment Camp. They were regarded not only as foreigners but as "enemy aliens" who needed to be kept apart for Canada's security. Poverty still fogs them, even though Anya's factory job helps out. Yet this Christmas promises to be happier than last year in the isolated internment camp...if old resentments can be laid to rest."
