Carolyn Meyer (born June 8, 1935 in Lewistown, Pennsylvania) is an American novelist. She is best known for writing historical fiction for young adults, including her Young Royals series. Meyer is the author of three books in The Royal Diaries, including Isabel: Jewel of Castilla, Anastasia: The Last Grand Duchess, and Kristina: The Girl King.

Biography[]

Carolyn was born June 8, 1935 to parents, Sara and Vic. She grew up an only child in the small town of Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Meyer began writing at the age of eight.[1]

Meyer wrote her first book Miss Patch’s Learn to Sew Book in 1969,[2] after her first marriage and births of three sons. After divorcing her husband, Meyer moved to a writers’ colony in Taos, New Mexico in the mid-1970s. She began writing young adult novels with South Africa: Growing Up in a Troubled Land in the 1980s. She has since written over fifty novels.[3]

Personal life[]

She was married to E.A. "Tony" Mares, a poet, essayist, historian, and college professor, who passed away in January 2015. Meyer has three sons from her first marriage and two daughters from Mares' previous relationship. She currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
