Citizen 13559: The Journal of Ben Uchida is a children's play based on the My Name Is America book The Journal of Ben Uchida by Barry Denenberg. The script was written by Naomi Iizuka. It was the final play performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a part of their collaboration with Scholastic Entertainment.

    Citizen 13559: The Journal of Ben Uchida was produced by Scholastic Entertainment and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It was the only play to be based on a My Name Is America as the other five proposed plays were to be based on Dear America books.[5] The play was written by Naomi Iizuka and directed by Chay Yew.[6] It was originally performed at the Kennedy Center's Family Theater from March 10 to 19, 2006.[7] Following the debut performance, a discussion panel with Iizuka, Yew, and Norman Y. Mineta was held.[8]

    In April 2017, the Seattle Children's Theatre announced their plans to stage Citizen 13559: The Journal of Ben Uchida.[9] The play ran at the Eve Alvord Theatre from February 8 to March 4, 2018. It was directed by Desdemona Chiang.[10] The Oregon's Children Theatre decided to put on the play for their 2019-2020 season.[11] It was performed at the Winningstad Theatre from February 29 to March 22, 2020.[12]
