General tips[]
- Use source mode for in-depth edits and VisualEditor for correcting minor mistakes.
- Keep opinions/rumors out of the articles. They should only be discussed in the comments, blog posts, or messages to other users.
Infoboxes[]
- See Category:Infobox templates for the infoboxes in use on the wiki currently.
Article structure[]
Characters[]
- Character articles should be written as if the person was real and in past tense, meaning "was" instead of "is", even if the person is still alive.
- Sections should be ordered as such "Biography", "Physical appearance" (optional), "Personality and traits", "Family tree", "Behind the scenes" (this section can acknowledge the real world), "Appearances", and "References".
- Additionally, the "Biography" section should be no longer or fewer than three paragraphs (its meant to be a summary). Supporting characters (if permitted a page) should have a two paragraph biography though there are some exceptions.
- "Physical appearance" is optional because it is not always mentioned within in the narrative.
- For good examples on how these sections are implemented, see Florence Mack Ryder and Harry Woods.
- Characters, such as Elizabeth I and Henry VIII, are an anomaly and are given longer biographies as they play large roles in several books.
Books[]
- The titles of book pages should be italicized using the {{DisplayTitle}} template.
- The sections of a book page are as follows "Dedication", "Book description", "Plot", "Historical Note," "Characters", "Author", "Awards" (optional), "Editions" (optional), "Videos" (optional), "Acknowledgments", "Notes," "References", "See also", and "External links" (optional).
- It should be noted that not every book has a dedication or acknowledgements. In that case, the section should be removed.
- The book's "Plot" should not be more or less than four paragraphs.
- If the book contains a Epilogue, it should be added as its own subsection under "Plot."
Character lists[]
- Character lists should be written similar to character pages; in the past tense.
- Sections are ordered "Main characters," Supporting characters," "Minor characters," and "Epilogue characters" (optional).
- "Main characters" usually only contains a single character. There are some exceptions like List of Color Me Dark characters or List of Wartime Princess characters, where another character plays nearly as big a role as the primary main character.
- "Supporting characters" are any characters that play a large role in the book and usually have some backstory.
- "Minor characters" should be presented as a bullet point list. These characters either do not play a huge role in the story or may have only been mentioned.
- "Epilogue characters" are optional as some epilogues do not present any new characters while some series outside Dear America do not have epilogues at all.
- For good examples of these lists, see List of Valley of the Moon characters or List of Anne Boleyn and Me characters.
Categories[]
- All articles, excluding redirects and disambiguation pages, are added to Category:A to Z.
