Dreams in the Golden Country is the second stage play performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It was written by playwright Barbara Field based on the Dear America book Dreams in the Golden Country. The play was performed at the Kennedy Center in 2002 and went on a national tour the next year.

Dreams in the Golden Country was the second play commissioned between Scholastic Entertainment and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a part of their six play deal. Only four plays ended up being performed at the center.[4] The play opened at the Kennedy Center's Theater Lab.[5] It ran from October 18 to November 3, 2002.[6] In 2003, Dreams in the Golden Country went on a national tour with a some casting changes.[7][8] The two month tour was seen by an estimated 15,000 people. It had a total of thirty performances at fifteen venues in elevens states. Like A Light in the Storm, it had a week-long run at the Scholastic Auditorium in New York City.[9]
