Jenny Blackman is the author of the My Australian Story book Our Enemy, My Friend. She based the book on her mother, Dorothea, to whom she also dedicated it to. At one point, Blackman worked as a librarian.

Biography[]

Around 1995, Blackman went through a six month chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. She began writing a manuscript, then titled Wirreebilla, during the treatment. The manuscript was based on the experiences of her mother Dorothea during World War I. Blackman won the Frustrated Writers Mentor Program in 1998 and was awarded a fellowship to Varuna in 2001. Blackman subsequently rewrote her manuscript into a diary format and sent it to Scholastic Australia. It was published as Our Enemy, My Friend in 2005.[1]

As of 2005, Blackman was married to Ted and they lived in North Shore. They had two children and five grandchildren at the time.[1]
