Belle Bates[]
Emily Belle Bates[5] (born January 5, 1912)[6] was the youngest child of Annabelle and Sam Bates. She was usually called by her middle name, Belle.
Charlie and Susannah Bates[]
Charlie and Susannah Bates (born c. 1909)[5] were the twin son and daughter of Annabelle and Sam. They were named after members of the Wesley family since their mother had been a Methodist. When they were younger, the twins had a "secret language" no one else understood.
Cornelia Webb[]
Hugo Bates[]
Hugo Bates (February 14, 1895[5] – April 1917)[7] was the eldest child of Annabelle and Sam. He had six younger siblings, including Eliza who called him her "favourite." Hugo was a student at the University of Toronto with plans to earn a B.A.. In 1915, he enlisted at the age of twenty after the Germans sank the Lusitania.
Jack Bates[]
Jack Bates (born c. 1897)[5] was the second son of Annabelle and Sam Bates. Before enlisting, he attended Agricultural College with plans to farm the land where his grandmother and Aunt Martha lived.
