Violet Debuchy[]

Main article: Violet Debuchy

Violet Debuchy (born 1926),[1] alias Céline LeBlanc, was the daughter of Jacques and Mary Debuchy. She was part-English, part-French.

Supporting characters[]

Abbey Hicks[]

Abbey Hicks[2] was Violet Debuchy's aunt. Her husband, Henry, died some years previously. In September 1939, she welcomed Violet and her parents into her London home. Abbey lost her parents and her younger siblings, Mary and Eric, in quick succession during the early stages of World War II in 1940. Violet continued to live with her and they became quite fond of each other.

Berthe and Mimi Megris[]

Berthe and Mimi Megris was the mother and younger sister of Pierre.

Edward Swinton[]

Edward Swinton was an agent with the Special Operations Executive. His office was located at the Inter-Services Research Bureau (SOE). Violet described him as a "small, very thin man in his forties" and commented that he seemed like a "military type." Edward became familiar with Jacques through his work with the SOE and learned about his daughter, Violet. Following Jacques's death in early 1944, Edward wrote a note to Violet inviting her to come see him at his office. From there he recruited her for the SOE.

Pierre Megris[]

Pierre Megris was the son of Berthe and older brother of Mimi.

  • Jacques Debuchy ("Dad"; died January 1944)[4] was Violet's father and Mary's husband. He was French and lived with his family in Paris until September 1939. Jacques moved his family to England, fearing an oncoming war. In May 1940, he left to become an organizer for the French Resistance and a liaison for the Resistance and the SOE. After his wife's death, Jacques vowed to "pay them back." He was later killed while being interrogated by Maximillian Schnell.
  • Mary Debuchy ("Mum"; died September 1940)[3] was the mother of Violet, and wife of Jacques. She lived in Paris with her husband and child until September 1939, when they came to England to live with her sister Abbey. The following year, Mary was staying the night with her aunt Peggy when the house was struck during the Blitz, which killed everyone inside.
