Kavitha Mandana is an Indian author, illustrator, and cartoonist. She has written eight books for children, including The Teenage Diary of Abbakka. Additionally, she writes and illustrates for the children's supplements for the Deccan Herald.[2] Mandana admired the historical figure of Rani Abbakka, saying that her "brave exploits are frustratingly under-documented." Upon her research, she discovered that there were three queens who shared the name Abbakka during the Chowta dynasty.[3]
